Red Cross ‘Annual Collection 2021’

The interim mayor highlighted the noble work that this institution carries out in favor of the people of Vallarta.

With the call to be in solidarity and support of a noble institution and the service of the community, the interim municipal president, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, led this Thursday the ‘Kick-off of the 2021 Annual Collection of the Red Cross’ in Puerto Vallarta.

There, he stressed the importance of supporting this cause for the Red Cross, because with the help of the people of Vallarta, the institution will be able to have funds to continue working. He asked the citizens that despite the difficult moments that have occurred in recent months, make a small effort to collaborate, as the Red Cross will always be ready to provide care to those who need it.

“There are many stories in which the heroism of the Red Cross is present to save a life; It does not matter if it is day or night, it does not matter the weather, it does not matter the danger, you are always there at the service of the people of Vallarta. We understand that these are difficult economic times for everyone, but it is also time to make an effort to help, none of us know if we are going to need it one day,” he said.

Quintero Alvarado also recognized the work carried out by the entire team that makes up this noble institution, "especially doctors, nurses, paramedics, orderlies, volunteers, because saving a person's life is the most important thing for you, even if putting at risk your own life. However, your work, like that of all medical personnel in Mexico, became more relevant during the complicated period that we are going through due to Covid-19, a disease that has shaken us as a society but has strengthened you in your vocation and your gift of service.”

He indicated that with them Puerto Vallarta has a group of heroes who are always willing to support their community. In this context, the first mayor highlighted the heroic act of a brave citizen, César Guadalupe Chávez Medrano, who did not hesitate to save the life of a girl, however unfortunately losing his own. His actions left a valuable message to the people of Vallarta to help each other "as the great family that we are, as citizens, that is the message that César leaves us, and I think it is important that today in this act we highlight it, and say that it is time to help each other."

On behalf of the municipal government, the interim mayor presented an award to the Puerto Vallarta Red Cross for its work in the service of this community, which was received by the work team headed by the president of the Council, Gloria Angélica Carrillo Gómez, who in turn, stated that the institution performs an average of 150 services per month, of which only three percent are paid.

She indicated that that is why it is important that the actions it carries out are known, so that with this collection it will be possible to continue having decent facilities and qualified personnel. “Volunteering, which is the spirit, is the essence of the Red Cross. We are currently a team of 70 people who are working and of them, only 29 have remuneration, all the others do it from the heart because they want to give service to the community; because they want to serve their fellow man; because they want to give a token of love ”.

At the start of this collection, there was also the presence of the director of the Municipal DIF, Celina Lomelí Ramírez; Ana Bertha Espíritu Ramírez, local coordinator of Red Cross Fundraising, and councilors and officials of this City Council.
