DIF Provides Guidance to Couples with Premarital Counseling

To support couples who are about to join their lives in legal marraige, ​​the Office of the Attorney for the Protection of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents of the Puerto Vallarta DIF System gives premarital counseling to couples.

This is a mandatory requirement that the Civil Registry indicates before getting married. 

Ana Liza Quintero, delegate of the institution, specified that the counseling addresses issues on the legal aspects of marriage. With the support of the Family Violence Attention Unit, they also work on issues of violence, individual roles within the couple, machismo, and the importance of respectful treatment, as well as others. 

She added that six aspects are addressed in the legal area, such as: Legal Nature of Marriage, Concept of Marriage as established in article 258 of the Civil Code of the State of Jalisco, Purposes and Characteristics of Marriage, Rights and Obligations of Marriage, the three types of regimes that the Civil Registry contemplates for Marriage, and Forms of Marriage termination.

The counseling takes place in the agency's facilities with a qualified and trained counselor. Couples must present copies of their birth certificates, provide their official identification, and pay a fee of 250 pesos for the collective modality, or 450 pesos for the privacy of individual sessions.
