Puerto Vallarta Police Academy Certified as a Training Entity

After just over two years of having started the registration and certification process, the Puerto Vallarta Police and Traffic Academy has been accredited as a training entity by the Executive Secretariat of the National Security System.

Hiram Plascencia González, deputy director of the academy, reported that last June he received the document that accredits and certifies it as such, beginning the certified training of personnel, which may also be accessed by other municipalities that require it. This will represent an annual saving of just over 7,244,000 pesos to the municipal treasury in police training, he said.

He recalled that in the first months of 2019, the first steps were taken to register and certify the Police and Traffic Academy "in order to provide certified training to our police officers and achieve savings in the expenditure budget in terms of training that we require… (We would) serve as a training entity, and in this way provide direct training, without having to contract the services of external academies, as had been done,” he explained.

He indicated that in January 2020 the corresponding documentation for the reclassification and certification of the Academy was sent to the Executive Secretariat. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the process of said certification was suspended, although the guidelines established by the National Security System had already been covered, so the courses taught during 2021 will be validated.

The courses include Initial Training for Preventive Police (Aspirants), Civic Justice, Chain of Custody, Basic Competencies of the Police Function, Physical Conditioning, Use of Force in Legitimate Defense, Intermediate Tactical Group, Advanced Tactical Group, Human Rights, Strengthening Program for Security in Vulnerable Situation Groups, as well as the Basic Competencies of the Police Function and Performance evaluations.

He mentioned that in April of this year, they received the visit of specialized personnel from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in order to carry out the corresponding verification and thus be able to conclude the certification process. In June they received the document which accredits and certifies the PV Academy as a training entity, starting the certified training process.
