Puerto Vallarta Public Servants Trained in Sexual Diversity

Through the Director of Sexual Diversity in the state, municipal officials receive valuable information for the development of their function in coordination with issues of sexual diversity.

The municipal government headed by the interim mayor, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, continues to work so that public servants develop their functions within the framework of respect for the human rights of all sectors of the population. The course 'Non-Discrimination against the LGBT Population' began this Monday, aimed at elements of the Citizen Security Directorate.

The three-day training course is led by the Director of Sexual Diversity of the State of Jalisco, Andrés Treviño Luna. Several issues were addressed including concepts about sexual diversity, the violence faced by this sector, and the attention and monitoring of crimes of hatred already contemplated in state legislation, among others.

At the beginning of the first day, Councilor David de la Rosa Flores recalled that both the council and the municipal government have been working hard on issues that guarantee respect and care for human rights, and in this case, against the discrimination of people from the LGBT community. For this reason, the Sexual Diversity Directorate in the state was contacted to carry out work that nurtures the actions of municipal officials and considers the sexual orientation or gender identity of the victim in the case of a crime to guarantee them justice.

The mayor thanked the support provided by the Citizen Security office, led by Rigoberto Flores Parra, to make this training possible, as well as Councilor Carmina Palacios Ibarra, president of the Justice and Human Rights Commission, who was present at the course and praised the good disposition shown by the participants.

Andrés Treviño Luna pointed out that Jalisco is the only state that has a Sexual Diversity Directorate, which is part of the Undersecretariat for Human Rights of the General Secretariat of the Government, and highlighted the importance of this type of training in Puerto Vallarta due to the constant contact with this sector.
