Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas Form a Common Front Against Covid-19

Acting and elected mayors of both municipalities work in coordination for the health and well-being of the inhabitants of this metropolitan area.

The municipal presidents of Puerto Vallarta, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, and Bahía de Banderas, Jaime Alonso Cuevas Tello, as well as the elected mayors of both municipalities, Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez and Mirtha Iliana Villalvazo Amaya, respectively have joined to work together for the health of the inhabitants of this region, seeking to strengthen coordination between authorities in this metropolitan area, and standardize health measures that will cut and reduce the chain of infections among the population. 

In a joint press conference, the acting mayor of Puerto Vallarta, Jorge Quintero, affirmed that the fact that today this working table is formed between acting and elected authorities, sending a strong message that the health and well-being of citizens is above any color or interest. 

"The health issue is everyone's responsibility, the health issue has no colors, it has no parties, it has absolutely nothing other than the preservation of the lives of the citizens of Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas." 

He specified that this sum of efforts to face the current Covid-19 pandemic began last week with the integration of the municipality of Bahía de Banderas to the Municipal Health Board, making aware that the same common objective is being pursued. Now the invitation has been extended to the elected mayors to also take an active part in the work, and with teamwork, to deliver better results to the inhabitants of this region. "I think it is the first time that we managed to have this long-awaited relationship." 

One of the points in which the first mayor of Vallarta pointed out, will be that of public transport. "An issue in which we will work together to take the guidelines based on our competencies about public transport," among other issues that require this coordination of efforts. 

The municipal president of Bahía de Banderas, Jaime Cuevas Tello, stressed that once again they are working as a team to solve the problems that affect this region, so this type of meeting allows the reinforcement of the actions that are being carried out together. In addition he invited the population to continue joining this effort to reduce the cases of Covid, "because health is everyone's job, we cannot only take unilateral actions without having participation also of the citizens.”

Presidents-elect Luis Michel Rodríguez, from Puerto Vallarta, and Mirtha Villalvazo, from Bahía de Banderas, agreed on the importance of continuing to adopt health care measures and follow-up so that there is no rebound in cases. They urged citizens to continue implementing prevention protocols, and highlighted the need for authorities to continue working on this same frequency to protect the inhabitants and tourists of this metropolitan area.
