Hurricane “Nora” Passes Through Leaving at Least One Missing and One Deceased

Hurricane “Nora” category 1 continues its trajectory towards the Northwest, gradually moving away from our coasts.

This morning, in a preliminary way, the count of the affectations in various areas of the state is significant, so the care work in coordination between the three levels of government intensified since yesterday and will continue today and for as long as necessary.

In the municipality of Puerto Vallarta, the Pitillal and Cuale rivers overflowed, resulting in the disappearance of a woman who was dragged with her vehicle into the current of the Pitillal River during the early hours of Sunday. Search units are continuing to carry out actions to locate the young woman.

In addition, the flooding of several neighborhoods and the partial collapse of a building in downtown Vallarta along the Cuale River were reported, resulting in the death of a young boy who was found this morning. State and municipal authorities contacted the family, and will continue to provide all the necessary support.

Also a stretch of the road La Rivera where it meets Calle Av Libramiento along the Cuale River has collapsed. In Boca de Tomatlán the overflow of the Tomatlán River was reported.

On the part of the personnel of the Civil Protection Unit, a tour was made in the area of ​​the Cuale river where several commercial farms were damaged, and in the downtown area where the bridge over the river collapsed, causing damage to nearby businesses and an apartment building.

In Cihuatlán, through coordinated work between the three levels of government, the count of damage continues in the houses affected by the overflow of the Arroyo “El Pedregal” in the towns of San Patricio, Melaque, and Villa Obregón. The Arroyo Las Ánimas and the operation of the Cajón de Peña Dam, which will vent more than 500 m3/s, are also being monitored, for which a flow of between 1,100 and 1,200 m3/s is expected for the Majahua Valley.

A mudslide on km 98 of state highway 428, El Grullo-Ciudad Guzmán resulted in the dragging of three men, one of those affected was able to be rescued with several injuries thanks to the coordination and joint work between the Jalisco Civil Protection Unit and SEDENA.

So far, more than 11 landslides, and trees and poles knocked down by strong winds and rain have been registered on state highway 80 that goes from the municipality of La Huerta to Melaque, and highway 200 that goes from Cihuatlán to Puerto Vallarta.

Today, on the instructions of the State Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, is in the municipality of Cihuatlán doing damage assessment tours in the area, as well as the secretaries Alberto Esquer of the Secretariat of Social Assistance and David Zamora Bueno of Infrastructure and Public Works, in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta.
