Search Continues for Woman Carried Downstream in the River Cuale

Three levels of government participate with field personnel to continue the search by air, sea, and land with personnel specialized in water rescue.

The State Civil Protection and Firefighters Unit of Jalisco continue to carry out work in coordination with the Secretary of Navy, the Search Commission, and with Municipal Security elements, for the search and rescue of Luz Berenice Maldonado Salazar, a 27-year-old woman who was dragged by the stream of the River Cuale on Saturday night, as Hurricane ′′Nora′′ passed down the state's shores.

Her vehicle was found Monday in the Cuale River completely crumpled and destroyed, and was pulled from the river by personnel of the Puerto Vallarta Fire Department after many laborious hours. However she remains missing.

Currently more than 30 people from the three corporations conduct individualized search actions by land and sea, with highly skilled and well equipped officers to carry out these tasks They also have rescue boats and a helicopter to expedite tracking.

It should be stressed that state government authorities are in constant communication with relatives to provide them with the required support.

Regarding the work carried out in the Puerto Vallarta Artisan Market known as “The Mercado,” civil protection personnel restricted access to the building in order to safeguard the integrity of the locataries.

It is important to note that the assessment of the damage continues by elements of civil protection from the municipality and the state, in the municipalities of Tomatlán, Talpa de Allende, Mascota, Atenguillo, Puerto Vallarta, Teocuitatlán de Corona, Cihuatlán, La Huerta, and Tomatlan.

Also sanitation work is being done with the help of volunteer groups at University of Guadalajara to strengthen sanitation work in streets and homes in Melaque and Cihuatlán, Jalisco.
