Puerto Vallarta’s War Against Garbage and Dengue Cleans Up Neighborhoods

With the participation of several municipal authorities and neighbors, 83 tons of garbage and 232 tires have been collected.

With the aim of motivating citizen participation in the cleaning activities of their neighborhoods, this Thursday at the work table of the building commission of Citizen Participation chaired by the councilor Roberto González Gutiérrez, a report was presented of the actions that have been undertaken as part of the “War against Garbage” campaign, by the Citizen Participation Sub-directorate.

Emilio Villaseñor González, general coordinator of the area, mentioned that as the Social Development department they had already been working on the issue of garbage collection and dengue, tasks that are done in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

He specified that as of March 4 of this year, the Social Development Directorate in coordination with the Eighth Health Region and Municipal Public Services, carried out 72 discarding campaigns in 83 neighborhoods where a greater number of dengue cases have been detected, achieving with this, a collection of tons of pots and open containers capable of holding water, eliminating the breeding sites and preventing the spread of the mosquito and the transmission of the disease.

Likewise, he reported that in attention to the trades and according to the work tables carried out with councilors of the Citizen Participation commission, the work corresponding to the "War against Garbage" campaign was undertaken, through a working agenda prioritizing those critical points, to which the councilors were invited to join in the field tasks, as well as the neighborhood committees of the colonies.

As of the start of this campaign, Villaseñor González reported that on July 21, the cleaning tasks were carried out to the colonies of Las Canoas, Campestre las Palmas, 1st de Mayo, Villa de Guadalupe and La Primevera, where they collected a total of 83 tons of garbage and 232 tires. These demarcations gave an excellent response from the neighbors and the participation of young people from the Municipal Institute for Youth Support, in addition to the dissemination in the electronic media and flyers in the colonies.
