Municipal president Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez has assured that his government is committed to improving agri-food systems with sustainability practices and a more efficient use of resources.
This in conjoinment with the Second Mesoamerican Congress of the Agrifood Councils of Mexico, headquartered here in Puerto Vallarta.
Jacobo Cabrera Palos, president of the Association of Agrifood Councils of Mexico, announced that within the framework of this Second Congress the manifesto of commitment for the creation of the Food Systems of Mexico will be established, and all those who are part of it will assume the firm commitment to the sustainability of our land, improve the efficiency of our food production, and promote sustainable maritime culture as green.
The new mayor emphasized that it is necessary to implement strategies toward a more self-sufficient agricultural community, while strengthening the productivity of various sectors. He added that rethinking our own agri-food systems requires considering food systems throughout the world.
Especially with all our revered tourist visitors, Puerto Vallarta consumes much more than it produces, and the goal is to be less reliant on produce imported from other areas, while improving the economies in rural areas.
With the assistance of the state and federal government, strategies to improve the productivity in agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries will be formed. Jalisco itself is an agricultural leader among the Mexican states, producing over 40 million tons of fish and agricultural products, mostly grown in inland valleys. Mayor Luis Michel’s commitment will encourage more agricultural productivity, diversity, and efficiency in crops grown in the valleys surrounding Vallarta.
