Puerto Vallarta Enacts Checkpoints to Determine Impaired Drivers

With Operative Breathalyzer enacted last Friday and Saturday nights, prevention of impaired driving is promoted.

In order to promote prevention, the Puerto Vallarta Municipal Roads Department, led by Jorge Alberto Castillo Núñez, began to carry out the Breathalyzer Operation; a measure with which it is intended to reduce automobile accidents derived from excess consumption of alcoholic drinks.

For its implementation, the direct indication of the Mayor, Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, was followed to be applied without distinction of any kind, on Friday and Saturday nights at the SEAPAL carcamo crossing, and at the intersection of Francisco Villa Avenue and Los Tules Avenue, in Fluvial Vallarta.

69 tests were carried out on motorists who were detected to have alcohol on their breath, of which 25, including two women, yielded very high results; and all of which received the corresponding sanctions. In the cases that the driver is able to access 50% of the fine, they were not detained and allowed to go home.

In this case, a total of 34 citations were produced, including six for motorcycles that were also inspected.

It should be noted that Commissioner Luis Fernando Muñoz Ortega, mentioned that the application of this device will be carried out permanently at established points during weekends and during the week in a random way, in such a way that there is always a surveillance of motorists guarding the dangers of combining alcohol with the steering wheel.

Along with this operation, road agents carry out intense preventive work, inviting people to respect road signs, drive responsibly and take preventive measures, as well as riding a motorcycle with a protective helmet, their lights on, and at moderate speed.
