Friday Forest Fire Report May 21

The National Forestry Commission (Conafor) reports on the situation of forest fires in the country as of 11:00 a.m. May 21st, so that the public has the details of these events and knows the actions

that the authorities carried out for its control and liquidation. At the 11:00 am cutoff, 61 active forest fires were registered in 16 states of the country, with a total of 1,347 combatants from Conafor and other entities working to manage them. 

At the moment the 61 active fires, have affected an area of ​​7,559.9 hectares. There have been a total of 20 fires settled, that is, they no longer represent a risk of spreading. 

Seven forest fires are reported in protected natural areas; one in the Sierra de Álamos-Río Cuchujaqui Flora and Fauna Protection Area, municipality of Álamos in Sonora, one in the Sierra de Mitras State Protected Natural Area, municipality of San Pedro Garza García in Nuevo León, one in the Natural Resources Protection Area CADNR 043 in the Mascota municipality in Nayarit, one in the Sierra Cóndiro Canales Hydrological Protection Area - Cerro San Miguel Chiquihuitillo, in the La Barca municipality of Jalisco state, one in the Sierra Monte Negro State Reserve, municipality of Emiliano Zapata in Morelos, one in the Zone Subject to Ecological Conservation La Concordia Zaragoza in the municipality of La Concordia in Chiapas, and finally, 1 that includes the Uaymil Flora and Fauna Protection Area and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, in the municipality of Bacalar, in Quintana Roo. 

A fire of special attention is reported in the Santa Bárbara/Cochibampo property, municipality of Álamos in Sonora, due to the impact on the protected natural area. 

The aerial equipment that is operating in the country or in disposition are the following: 

In Quintana Roo, in the Uaymil/El Pucté Norte fire, in the municipality of Bacalar, two helicopters from Conagua are being used for personnel transport.

The population is reminded that, to avoid a greater risk, the call is reiterated not to use fire in the forest and surrounding areas, since high temperatures, little precipitation and strong winds are forecast.

A forest fire is an unscheduled fire within forests, jungles, arid areas, or mangroves. Fires in urban and agricultural areas are taken care of by Civil Protection.
