Governor of Jalisco Disclaims Hospital Saturation in the Face of New Covid Cases

In spite of the recent increase of infections by Coronavirus in the entity, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez assured that the hospitals of Jalisco are not saturated and for the moment a new hospital conversion is ruled out.

The Governor asked young people to take extreme care, since it is this sector that has had the greatest impact in recent weeks in terms of infections and hospitalizations. Young people, specifically those 20 to 34 years old, are urged to exercise extreme precautions in their daily activities to avoid more cases of coronavirus in the home, public spaces, or workplaces.

"This data is fundamental. Some notes or information have been generated in the sense of saturated hospitals and a problem of that nature, (but)we do not have a health system exceeded. You have to see the difference between the number of people hospitalized that we have at this time, (and) those that we had at the most critical moment of the pandemic in January 2020,.. more than triple. The call is that we all act responsibly,”said Alfaro Ramírez.

Regarding hospital care in this phase of the pandemic, Enrique Alfaro said that there is a flexible strategy that can be adjusted as needed, that is, if more beds are required, they will be installed, but without reaching a point of conversion.

At a press conference, the state president also reported that in recent days the positivity rate went from 5% to 10.3%, and the number of cases reached 2,560 in the most recent count. In addition, 90% of recently hospitalized people did not have the vaccine, or their vaccination schedule was incomplete, making a call to continue its application. However, he clarified that Jalisco is well below the national average in the incidence of active cases.

“In the last 3 weeks it is important to do the comparison, which is what… we are evaluating. When we talk about a new wave of infections, we can think that we were like at the beginning of the year, and it is not like that. We are well below the peak we had at the beginning of this year,” the president explained.

Regarding massive events, the Strategic Social Development Coordinator, Anna Bárbara Casillas, recalled that events of more than 600 people are prohibited and that the possibility of holding them will be subject to the type of event, activities carried out in it, and the requirement to use the mask at all times.

The Secretary of Health, Fernando Pertersen Aranguren, informed that in Jalisco 2,687,551 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 have already been applied in different groups and age ranges in the population.
