Governor Enrique Alfaro Tours Guadalajara Airport Expansion Project

As part of the economic reactivation the Governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, toured the expansion works of the Guadalajara International Airport.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico will continue to invest 15 billion pesos through the year 2026 in the construction project, including the building of a second runway.

The placement of the City of Guadalajara brand totem was also inaugurated, in addition to the start of the campaign to deliver facemasks to terminal users.

“Today we not only come to see the City Brand in our airport, we come to know how the works and the remodeling and expansion works of the airport are going. We already see clear and forceful results because the transformation that the airport has had in the last few years is truly impressive.”

“I know that this amount of investment that had been programmed a couple of years ago has been a challenge to be able to exercise it in the midst of adversity, that is, with an airport that was greatly affected by the pandemic. That you have continued with the investment that you promised to make in our state, in our city, and in Puerto Vallarta as well,  is a reason for recognition,” remarked Alfaro Ramírez.

At the end of the unveiling of the totem, the Governor and executives of the GAP toured the construction works of the mixed-use building that will have a hotel, offices, and commercial space expected to be complete by 2023. Later they moved to the supervision of the second runway that is currently under construction, which will be 3.5 km long and 160,000 m2.

“Today we are resuming this agenda because we need to make it a central part of the economic reactivation, that Guadalajara can be consolidated as a destination of excellence for business and conventions. All this also has to do with the commitment to reposition the city brand,” he said.

In this regard, Raúl Revuelta, director of the GAP, explained that this new concept of positioning the Guadalajara brand is an important milestone at the moment that encourages consumption and tourism that helps to recover the economy in the entity.

"At GAP we continue to bet on Jalisco, we continue to believe of course in Guadalajara and so much so that we believe that money continues to flow in these works," he added.

Mario Silva, head of IMPEPLAN, thanked the Guadalajara City Brand Trust, which will distribute masks within the campaign "We are together and we wear it well", with the intention of promoting healthy distance practices and sanitary control.

The expansion and modernization of the airport will increase, among other actions, passenger security screening lines from 15 to 29, terminal expansion of 125,700 square meters, air corridors will grow from 12 to 27, the new automated checked baggage system will double its capacity, parking spaces will triple, and the growth of general aviation will increase its surface by 150%, with more positioning of aircraft and helicopters, in addition to contemplating the new hangar area and facilities of SEDENA, FAM and FGR.
