Federal Government Recognizes Crime Reduction in Jalisco

According to data from the National Public Security System, from January to July of this year, in Jalisco high-impact robberies have been reduced by 50.4% compared to figures from 2018.

Among these the reduction of 50.9% percent stands out for theft of private vehicles. In addition, malicious homicides have been reduced from 2019 to 2021 and Jalisco is now below the national average of crime incidence, something that had not happened in the last 5 years.

With this, the Government of Mexico, in a morning conference led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Puerto Vallarta, recognized these advances.

“We are moving forward, INEGI itself confirms that the perception is better. This in a survey, but also in the crime incidence with official data… in (crimes such as) homicides and vehicle thefts. A great effort is being made to achieve this,” said the President of the Republic.

In this regard, the Governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, affirmed that the results achieved in the entity in terms of security are very important, and are the result of the coordination that has been had with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Secretary of the Navy.

"For the first time in 5 years, Jalisco has achieved that the total crime incidence can be… below the national average in the first half of the year, from January to June 2021. For us it is an important fact, because it shows that we are on the right path, not satisfied with what has been done, but making important progress… All the crimes that have the greatest impact on people's assets have a very significant reduction of over 50 percent,” emphasized the Governor.

Alfaro Ramírez also highlighted that security actions continue to be reinforced, particularly those related to intentional homicide, where it is estimated that 81.2% of all these crimes are linked to organized crime.

“Coordination has been achieved so that the security agenda is never contaminated by the political issue. Here we are concentrated and have joined efforts with the Mexican Army, with the Armed Navy, with the National Guard, with all federal entities, with whom we are working every day to achieve the results we want,” said Alfaro Ramírez.

The drop in crimes was confirmed and seconded by the Secretary of the Navy of the Government of Mexico, José Rafael Ojeda Durán, who showed reductions of 11.5% in robbery to passers-by, 36.5% in extortions, and 21.8% in robberies from home, among others.

“This state is the third place when it comes to population. Out of 10 crimes evaluated, we will see them one by one. With regard to robberies of passersby ... it is a crime that is going down by 11.5%; with regard to extortion, it is also going down," said the Secretary of the Navy at the morning press conference of the President of Mexico.

The head of the SEMAR also highlighted in general terms that business robbery, femicides, drug dealing, and malicious homicides have a downward trend. In intentional homicide by state, the official said, Jalisco ranks fifth in relation to the national average, while for every 100,000 inhabitants it ranks twelfth.

Regarding the presence of federal security forces in the State, it was reported that there are a total of 20,724 officers distributed in the 12 regions of Jalisco.

To conclude, the President stressed that Jalisco is the entity that has the most barracks of the National Guard, 30 to date, which facilitates the tasks carried out by the state, in coordination with the Government of Jalisco.
