Governor Announces Plans for Costalegre Airport with Regional Development

The new Costalegre Airport in the south region will connect with the airports of Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, as well as two new highways from the mountains to the coast.

The construction site lies about midway between the two citites, right alongside highway 200.

The site already prepared, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, announced the construction of the world-class Airport in Chalacatepec with an injection of 62 million pesos. The project is integrated into 16 initiatives, and a portfolio of 35 projects of the plan have already been executed, and others are in the process for an amount of 1.495 billion pesos. In the medium term, by 2024, an additional 910 million pesos of public and private investment will be added.

The work on the Chalacatepec airstrip includes perimeter fencing, surface cleaning and horizontal marking, wind cones, taxiway and apron, terminal building and basic services, runway lighting and aids. As complementary works, there will be a parking lot and connecting road, hangars, navigation aids, safety equipment, fire fighting equipment, and first aid equipment.

The state president led the presentation of the Regional Plan of Costalegre de Jalisco, that will guide regional development and that seeks social transformation based on economic development with strict adherence to cultural and natural heritage. This regional plan joins those of the Agave Landscape, Ribera de Chapala, and Sierra de Tapalpa, regions which respect land use planning and citizen participation.

“That is the spirit of what we started two years ago in this planning work, identifying the things that we have to do, but the most important and always the most difficult thing is to do them. Not only have a document, but this document becomes a work route that also becomes a reality and today that we announce the two new roads, the airport, and everything we talk about, I want you to know that we are not saying it just to make the message more beautiful. We say it because we are going to do it, because we are going to fulfill it, and because we are going to lay the foundations for the development of this region in the future based on the criteria of sustainability, social justice, and economic growth for all,” reported Alfaro Ramírez.

José Luis Valencia Abundis, head of the Jalisco Government's Strategic Projects Agency, mentioned that this development is based on road infrastructure works including rural roads, digital connectivity; comprehensive regional mobility by land, air and sea, waterworks infrastructure; rehabilitation, expansion and equipment for hospital health and basic and higher education, tourist infrastructure and public beach availability, the agropark for the agroindustrial development in the region, infrastructure in the generation of clean energies, and civil protection modules, with the consensus of citizen participation throughout the plan.

For his part, the head of SEMADET, Sergio Graf Montero, explained that this planning and development instrument prioritizes unified land use planning for its care and preservation with sustainable development, and with criteria already approved with federal and state agencies and in councils.

"The consultation process that lasted about five months… represented multiple meetings with businessmen, with municipalities, with collectives, and especially with 34 ejidos and 2 indigenous communities to clearly identify that this instrument is an instrument that favors them."

In the first point of this Friday, Enrique Alfaro supervised the process of reconstruction and maintenance of Highway 200, and the announcement of the completion this year of the two new highways that will link the mountains with the coast, the Via Chamela - Villa Purificación - Autlán de Navarro and the Talpa de Allende-Llano Grande-Tomatlán highway with 85% progress.

Thus, the Costalegre will articulate the road infrastructure with the Puerto Vallarta Airport, the Manzanillo Airport in the southern part adjacent to Cihuatlán, and soon with the Chalacatepec Airport, which will help the tourist developments that are made in this area of Jalisco. "Urbanization projects are being carried out, very important hotels are coming," he stressed.
