30 Million Pesos Slated for “Nora” Recovery; Much More Needed

The Government of Jalisco has around 30 million pesos ready to be used to repair the damage left by Hurricane Nora in recent days in the coastal regions, particularly Puerto Vallarta.

Communication was established with the Secretary of the Interior, and support from the Federation is expected soon.

“We are finishing evaluating the amounts that we have to cover in the damaged infrastructure, particularly bridges and some roads. Today, (regarding) the trust we have to deal with these disasters with state resources, we have around 30 million pesos available. We estimate that the cost that these effects will have will be greater. We estimate that it could be between 60 million or 70 million pesos," announced Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez.

During the weekly press conference he specified that, of the 90 schools affected by the heavy rains, the damages are of different magnitude and it is understood that less than half suffered minor damages.

He added that 90 percent of the roads in downtown Puerto Vallarta have been cleaned, freeing up traffic. In the coming days there will be a registry of damages to crops.

He informed that the municipal market that borders the Cuale River in Puerto Vallarta will be opened for merchants, so that they can collect their merchandise and do a damage census.

So far there are 1,156 homes and businesses affected in total in the coastal municipalities.

The Jalisco president indicated that he established communication with Adán Augusto López, new head of the Ministry of the Interior, awaiting a response from the Federation for the support of the victims, especially in what corresponds to the highways in this area.

"We are going to see how far we can advance with the resources we have, and in this case we are going to have to allocate more resources."

The Governor pointed out that all the dependencies of the Government of Jalisco focused on initially assisting the victims and the affected roads.
