Jalisco Health Council Adopts Agreements to Improve Safety in Hospitals

In an extraordinary session it was proposed to standardize security codes and have a Protocol proposal for all medical units in the State.

The State Health Council, the highest advisory authority on health matters, agreed today to issue a proposal for a Security Protocol approved for the medical units of the State of Jalisco, and have effective inter-institutional communication, in order to improve and strengthen the set of measures to reduce possible risks to patients, staff, and infrastructure in hospitals.

The Council approved today the installation of a technical commission that will analyze in detail the mechanisms that each institution has already implemented, and the opportunities for improvement.

The head of the SSJ and president of the State Health Council, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, recalled that there are 14 hospital safety codes in all the institutions of the Sector.

“We are convinced that each and every one of the hospitals has these codes, but we have to make a homogenized, transversal, and unique code for the State of Jalisco. The knowledge and development of the protocols that each of the institutions have can help us so that we make codes (universal) and their application. And we can have a much clearer communication regarding all the moments that put the health system, the hospitals, the doctors, and of course the patients vulnerable,” highlighted the Secretary of Health.

Petersen Aranguren commented that hospital security codes consider issues derived from natural disasters, fires, and even theft or other threats.

The Attorney General of the State of Jalisco, Gerardo Octavio Solís Gómez, as a guest to the session, recommended to the heads of the institutions that provide health care services to redirect the patterns, protocols, and internal security codes in order to avoid situations like the one that occurred in recent days, with the theft of a newborn that fortunately was located.

The State Health Council is made up of the institutions of the sector: IMSS, ISSSTE, OPD Hospital Civil de Guadalajara, OPD Jalisco Health Services, Municipal Medical Services, Coprisjal and SSJ, among others. The members of the organization have unanimously approved the agreements.

APPROVED AGREEMENTS

First. The members of the State Health System must notify each other of irregular security events that occur within their hospital units, so that the measures and protocols within them can be taken and reinforced.

Second. In terms of the provisions of article 1 and 7, section VIII of the Decree for the Creation of the State Health Council, the establishment of a working commission responsible for issuing a proposal for an approved Safety Protocol for the medical units of the State of Jalisco is authorized. Once the protocol proposal is available, it must be submitted to the Council for its approval.
