Work in Progress to Fully Reopen the Mascota-Puerto Vallarta Road

The landslides caused by this season’s copious rains that were registered this Tuesday, September 14, mainly at km 55, had obstructed one of the lanes.

The state Highway Plan stipulates that conservation actions are to be carried out by the contracted companies of the state.

In order to release the state Highway 544 Mascota-Las Palmas-Puerto Vallarta as soon as possible and in its entirety, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works of the Government of Jalisco (SIOP,) in coordination with the state Civil Protection, is working on the withdrawal of earth, branches, and stones at kilometer 55, near the town of La Estancia, where several landslides led to the closure of the Vallarta-Mascota direction.

The landslides caused by the intense rainstorm were reported to the Emergency Call Center (911,) after several vehicles were unable to continue on their way.

While the removal works are culminating, these works that began the same night on Tuesday have allowed alternate passage through the enabled free lane, which is restricted from heavy traffic.

The Jalisco Highway Plan 2019-2024 stipulates that the contractor companies must take charge during the six-year period of maintenance of the state roads that they rehabilitate, such as in the case of the landslides presented in Highway 544.

The same Highway Plan under the charge of SIOP, carries out daily prevention and care work for the effects on this and the rest of the highways in Jalisco, totaling 4,421 km of roadway.

Citizens are asked to drive with caution on this and all roads subject to slides, since due to the intense rainstorms this season there are constant landslides. Drivers should also be cautious and alert when crossing through any moving water.
