Earthquake Emergency National Drill 2021 Held Throughout Jalisco

With the participation of some hotels, companies, and institutions, Puerto Vallarta joins the Second National Drill 2021.

In order to continue promoting the culture of Civil Protection in the population and contribute to the strengthening of the reaction capacities of internal units and their brigades in the event of an emergency or disaster, Puerto Vallarta joined the Second National Drill 2021 held this Sunday throughout the country.

The Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Puerto Vallarta in coordination with the State Unit of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Jalisco, registered the activities and preventive actions on the occasion of this exercise, in which 11 companies participated, including hotels, shopping centers, and health institutions of the city.

The exercise was carried out under an earthquake hypothesis and based on the established protocols, a total of 851 people were evacuated from the participating entities.

Preventive tours were carried out during the drill, and support units were available in case of any eventuality. At the end of it, no setbacks or incidents were reported.

The Velas, Marriott, Westin, Playa Los Arcos, Casa Doña Susana, and Hotel Rosita hotels participated; as well as personnel and directors of the company Liverpool and Plaza Galerías, as well as SAM’s Club; the General Hospital of Zone 42, and the IMSS Clinic 170.

On this occasion, as it was a non-business day, in Puerto Vallarta the exercise was not carried out in public buildings or public offices.

It should be noted that the Second National Drill 2021 was held in commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the 1985 earthquake, and the fourth anniversary of the 2017 earthquake.

The 2021 evacuation macrosimulation was also carried out in Guadalajara, where the invitation to participate was extended to educational institutions of all levels, dependencies of the 3 levels of government, companies, and society in general.

It was carried out at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, with the hypothesis of a 7.8 magnitude earthquake having an epicenter located 43 kilometers north of the city of Guadalajara, in the municipality of San Cristóbal de la Barranca.

On this occasion, the inhabitants of about 3,000 properties from the private and public sector participated, this from a population of approximately 490,000 inhabitants.

Despite having been held on Sunday, and the work activity being decreased to a great extent, a good response was obtained from the Jalisco population, however it is important to remember not to lower our guard and be prepared for any type of eventuality.

Remembering that these types of exercises are intended to provide knowledge for before, during, and after an emergency, reaffirms the culture of self-protection in the state and having a population that is increasingly better prepared for disasters.

The State Government and the State Civil Protection Unit urge the general population to train and be prepared for emergencies.
