Government of Jalisco to Provide 68 Million Pesos to Families Affected by Hurricane “Nora”

Support in the amount of 68,075,000 pesos will be delivered this week to eight municipalities through FOEDEN.

In a weekly press conference, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez said that the State is prepared to deliver through the corresponding agencies the support to the people whose patrimony was affected as a result of the recent natural phenomena in the state. He reiterated that he will not leave the municipalities alone regardless of the response given by the federation.

“We are ready to deliver this week the support to Ejutla, El Grullo, El Limón, Puerto Vallarta, Zapotiltic, Tizapan, El Salto and Tlaquepaque and with these support we will have covered the first stage. They will be pending for: Autlán de Navarro, Cabo Corrientes, Casimiro Castillo, Cihuatlán, La Huerta, Mascota, Santa María del Oro, Talpa de Allende, Teocuitatlán de Corona, Tomatlán, Villa Purificación, and a part of Zapopan, with an outstanding balance of 37 million pesos.”

Alberto Esquer, Secretary of the Social Assistance System, explained that once the phase of assessing damage due to rains in the municipalities was concluded, 3,157 homes were affected, yielding a total balance of 68,075,000 pesos, and in this week, through the State Fund for Natural Disasters (FOEDEN,) their household items will be replaced, including beds, refrigerators, stoves, and others.

On the subject of crops, a census was made where 1,800 hectares were affected throughout Costalegre, and through the catastrophic insurance that the Ministry of Agriculture has for 20 million pesos, up to 2,500 pesos per hectare will be supported by those who have lost their harvests.

"In the next few days a meeting is expected with the Secretary of the Interior to establish the rules and be aware of future events," said the state president, adding that he expects a favorable response from the federation regarding a Declaration of Natural Disasters to support the pending municipalities and merchants.

The Declaration of Emergency covers aspects of basic support to the population in the event of natural disasters, while in the Declaration of Natural Disasters the federation grants resources that cover damage to infrastructure.

542 million pesos are needed to attend to infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Nora in 25 municipalities; support from the federation is expected through the Declaration of Natural Disasters. The State Government made the request officially on September 17, and hopes that the federation will make the Declaration of Natural Disasters in order to access resources that allow the repair of damage to highways, roads, bridges, among others.

The Governor stressed that there is a commitment and the state is doing its part to define strategies to support those affected.
