Staff of DIF and SSAS Form Huge Human Pink Bow on eve of World Day Against Breast Cancer

They seek to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, treatment options, and palliative care for breast cancer patients.

On the eve of the commemoration of the World Day Against Breast Cancer, the Jalisco Secretariat of the Social Assistance System (SSAS,) and the Jalisco System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF,) gathered their staff, all dressed in pink, on the Glorieta de La Normal and together formed the shape of a huge pink bow. The bow of people represents this year’s motto of "Human Bond for the Prevention and Combat of the disease."

Coordinator of the Jalisco Solidario Volunteering, Joanna Santillán Álvarez, recognized the teamwork to participate in this initiative.

"We live a very hard process after the pandemic and we understand that without health we have nothing. Cancer is one of the diseases that kills our women the most, so this act that we are doing today is to honor the process that they live,” she proclaimed.

The staff members all wore pink clothes, the familiar representative color for the breast cancer campaign, capturing the attention of the people and send a message about the importance of prevention and treatment of this condition in a timely manner.

In recognition of the tireless struggle of women who suffer from the disease, the Secretary of Social Assistance, Alberto Esquer Gutiérrez, stressed the commitment of the continual work done in both organizations.

“Our work is very beautiful because we help priority groups. It is the fight and it is the example of every day, and today in this month of October when we celebrate the fight against breast cancer, the effort that is being made, I think, that from our trenches we must do twice (the effort.)”

Recommendations to prevent risk factors include eating healthy, physical activity, not consuming tobacco or alcoholic beverages, constant self-examination and medical check-ups from 25 years of age and an annual mammogram from 40 years of age.

In addition, women can consult the nearest Health Centers where they can schedule an appointment for preventive check-ups by entering the website: http://www.camujal.site/
