Jalisco SEMADET Invites Participation in Actions Against Climate Change Survey

Through a participatory survey, updates will be proposed on legal matters for climate change action in Jalisco.

The government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Development (Semadet,) establishes strategic alliances to implement actions to strengthen capacities in climate action. Within the framework of the collaboration between the UK PACT and the organization Politica y Legislación Ambiental A.C., the need to carry out an update process was detected for the Law for Action against Climate Change of the State of Jalisco, decreed since 2015.

Semadet invites all those interested in participating in this collaborative exercise with the aim of updating and standardizing certain concepts, incorporating the reforms derived from the ratification of the Paris Agreement, the adoption of the recently ratified Escazú Agreement, and the Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals.

This process was presented before a virtual panel with heads of environmental secretariats of other sub-national governments that are developing similar initiatives. The strategies carried out in each state were addressed and it was highlighted that with the information collected it will be possible to have a clear and robust legal framework that reflects the need to achieve wide-ranging, multilevel, and sectoral scaling up and acceleration of mitigation, as well as both incremental and transformative adaptation, thus reducing risks related to climate change.
