Jalisco is a Destination for Everyone this World Tourism Day

The Government of Jalisco promotes the first all-inclusive tourism manual in Jalisco and free trainings.

With the intention of generating more inclusive spaces with greater plurality, this year the World Tourism Organization chose the title of "Tourism for inclusive growth." as a slogan that frames the celebration of September 27, World Tourism Day.

Throughout 2021, the Jalisco Tourism Secretariat (Secturjal,) in coordination with the Directorate of Inclusion for People with Disabilities, have promoted training and diagnostic actions to provide more comprehensive care to those who visit the destinations of Jalisco.

“Inclusion is one of the priorities in this administration. That is why, within the framework of World Tourism Day, in Jalisco we celebrate what has been done and we emphasize that inclusion is a permanent work that brings us closer, and sensitizes to the needs of the other. I congratulate each and every tourist service provider that this and every day, they care about having spaces in which we can all enjoy,” commented Germán Kotsiras Ralis Cumplido, head of the agency.

Among the actions derived from this inter-institutional collaboration is the Manual of Recommendations for the Care of People with Disabilities in the Tourism Sector. It is a free tool available to everyone, based on legal regulations at the international, national, and state levels regarding accessibility, inclusion, and non-discrimination of People with Disabilities. The manual can be downloaded in digital format from the official website of the Secturjal.

From this project, during the year 147 people have been trained in 6 virtual and face-to-face courses that promote the professionalization of tourism service providers. These trainings have been carried out in the main destinations of the state such as Puerto Vallarta, Costalegre, and the municipalities of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.

Due to its importance, virtual and face-to-face refresher courses have also been given to 108 tourist guides on the inclusion of People with Disabilities and care for the LGBTQ + community, each lasting an average of 20 hours. This helps to ensure that the guide gets better training, more sensitivity, and therefore be able to provide better treatment of our tourists.

The Secturjal has also worked on inclusion issues from the promotion area with the organization of familiarization trips of specialized media on the LGBTQ + community, and with the inspection visit of the organizers in November in Guadalajara to host the 2026 Gay Games, a multidisciplinary, sports and cultural event with athletes from more than 50 countries.

Another of the actions that give value to the field of inclusive tourism in Jalisco is the universal accessibility project in the magical towns. The intention is to generate diagnoses on its infrastructure, which identify the areas with the possibility of improvement and their respective intervention proposals. Thus, the municipalities will be able to make the changes they consider pertinent to guarantee universal access for tourists who visit them.

Last but not least, Jalisco has Cuastecomates beach, one of the few inclusive beaches in the country. In addition to offering a paradisiacal tourist destination, it has all the necessary requirements for the enjoyment of a destination: a recently remodeled malecon with 100% recycled material; a shallow beach without currents or waves, amphibious chairs, accessible parking, hotels and restaurants set up on the beach, tactile location guides, among others.

To continue promoting inclusion in tourist destinations, the agency makes available to tourism service providers the free diagnostic service of its facilities to find out if they are considered inclusive spaces, and offer them improvement proposals.
