"Letras en la Mar" International Meeting of Poets and Art Comes to Vallarta

This weekend, November 11-13, the tenth edition “Letras en el Mar” will take place in various locations within Puerto Vallarta.

This international meeting of poets was organized by the Jalisco Ministry of Culture’s Department of Language and Literature, to celebrate poetry in a port of inspiring beauty and cultural heritage.

The inaugural ceremony starts on Thursday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m., at the Arches of the Malecón in Puerto Vallarta, in the presence of Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, Municipal President of Puerto Vallarta; Luis Escoto, Director of the Vallarta Institute of Culture; and Alejandro Sánchez Cortés, Director of “Letras en la Mar.” There will be a special tribute to teacher Patricia Medina, a writer whose prestige as a poet is ahead of her narrative, essay, drama and journalism work.

Beginning on Friday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m., with be the presentation "All children fit in a poem," with a special meeting of poets Carmen Villoro, Patricia Velasco, and Maira Colín with girls and boys from Vallarta at the Los Mangos Library. Then at 1:00 p.m., the presentation of the book "Solo la Tierra Sola," by Mariana Pérez Villoro, and at 4:00 p.m. "Letras en la Sea, Living Presence, ” a photographic flashback by Sergio Toledano.

At 6:00 p.m. "Sinfonía del Mar" will begin, a poetry reading in the Plaza de la Hermandad, which is at the end of San Salvador street right on the beach. The poets Brenda Ríos, Enrique Carlos, Patricia Velasco and Fanny Enrigue will participate. At 8:00 pm, La Tosca Gaetano Trattoria at Calle España #323 in Versalles will host the reading “Mar de Fondo,” in which Alejandro Tarrab, Luis Felipe Fabre, Brenda Ríos, Daniel Wence and Maira Colín will be present at the gathering of poets. Finally, at 9:30 p.m. at the Esplanade Velarias, the poetic evening "Bajo la luna de Vallarta" will have the participation of poets from Vallarta. 

On Saturday, November 13, the Emiliano Zapata Market will host the reading “¡Pásele Marchantita! Here there is also poetry” at 11:00 a.m. Later at 1:00 p.m. the book “Aguas revueltas” by Ramón Domínguez will be presented at the Cuale Cultural Center, where “Letras en la Mar” will conclude. At 5:00 p.m. the poetry reading “Marea Alta” will be held with the outstanding participation of Carmen Villoro, Daniel Wence, Patricia Velasco, Raúl Gibrán, Maira Colín, Alejandro Tarrab, Ramón Domínguez, Brenda Ríos , Fanny Enrique, Karina Macías, and Enrique Carlos. Finally at 8:00 p.m., the official closing will take place with the delivery of the Silver Snail Award to Patricia Medina in the Auditorium of the Cuale Cultural Center.
