Today we went to get a super good smashed burger at Jeans All American Burgers in the Marina.
Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.
As my dad and I were sitting around avoiding the heat and not doing anything, we started thinking about places we could go to eat, since we try our best to keep the food reviews frequent. But as I thought of different little taco stands or comida corrida places, I decided that I wanted something different today, and I thought of Jean’s Burgers!! Their burgers are good old-fashioned American burgers and are really yummy, plus they have lots of special options, and last but not least they have real ice cream milkshakes, so we decided to go there. It is the island #17 in Plaza Marina, Marina Vallarta, and their longitude latitude location is 20.673393074707278, -105.25099789571493.
But before I get into tasing about Jean's and there food, I want to first talk about different types of burgers. Of course, there is the standard hamburger we all know and love, which is grilled ground meat, normally topped with lettuce and tomato and onion, but there’s also the steakhouse burger made out of better cuts such as short rib and brisket, and there’s even what I call meatloaf burger, which has onions and other vegies mixed in with the beef. Then there are White Castle style burgers, which are steamed. They also have sliders, which are the little burgers with lots of meat, and then, there are smashed burgers. Smashed burgers have a heavy, flat item placed on top of the burger while it is being cooked, which gives it a larger surface and a crispy, caramelized crust. And Jean’s does the best ones in PV, or at least the best that I know of.
Jean’s All American Burgers serves a variety of different smashed burgers, such as the American, Mexican, and Vegetarian. They also have special items like a smoked beef brisket sandwich, and home made sides like coleslaw and chili fries. And, as I said before, they have real ice cream milkshakes, and plenty of flavors too, at least more than just vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The prices are mediocre; not necessarily expensive but not cheap either, though every single peso, or penny, is worth the flavor and work put into these real American smashed burgers.
To eat I had a Mexican burger, which is a Mexican style Oklahoma onion burger aka a “depression burger,” and to drink a creamy vanilla milkshake, which to me is so much better than chocolate. The burger I had is called a depression burger because it was a burger commonly made during The Great Depression, since cooks had to be creative because of how scarce a lot of ingredients were, and the burger has about half an onion in it to stretch out the meat without reducing flavor. My burger was delicious; the patty was crispy and perfectly spiced, and the onions had a perfect caramelized and sweet flavor, though they weren’t mushy. As you probably know by now I like my food salty, but I didn’t add any salt to my burger! And the milkshake was off the hook! It was super creamy, sweet but not too sweet, and you could taste that it was made from real ice cream rather than from reconstituted powder at a stand out front any ol’ grocery store.
My dad had the classic burger, which is similar to an American burger but it had fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion on it, as well as a “classic sauce.” The caramelization on the patty from being smashed gives all of their burgers a different flavor from any other burger, especially with the steakhouse burger, but even just a regular burger is very different. And the crisp veggies on the classic burger gives it nice additional texture, and flavor too.
Jean’s All American Burgers is located on the ground floor of the north landmark tower of Plaza Marina. They have a covered seating counter, and also some tables with umbrellas where people can sit and eat. The girls are very friendly and talkative, unless they are super busy, so it’s fun to sit at the counter, which is what we usually do.
