Today we went to Fabrica Del Hot Cake expecting pancakes, waffles, maybe some french toast, and chilaquiles but there was so much more!
Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so popular cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every single day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.
My dad and I were talking about going some place to eat, and my dad recommended arrieros but I started complaining about how it was too hot to go eat under the hot tin stand. And, we couldn’t think of another place off the top of our head so I went on Google Maps and looked for restaurants near our area. I found La Fabrica Del Hot Cake, and a waffle sounded really good to me but I know my dad hates sweets, but I saw in the reviews that someone said the chilaquiles were really good, so I expected a simple breakfast place with pancakes and waffles, probably French toast, and a few simple breakfast entrees like chilaquiles and eggs. But I was sooo wrong. They are located on Puerto Tampico #120 in Ramblases and the longitude latitude location is 20.62988431855759, -105.21503116370268. They also do delivery.
Fabrica Del Hot Cake’s menu includes, but isn’t limited to
- 17 different pancakes, a couple of them even savory
- 20 different waffle options
- Crepes made to order
- Eggs and omelets made to order, and 7 other special egg dishes
- 8 different chilaquile styles
- 30 different drinks
- 11 malts and shakes
- Tacos, tortas, quesadillas, burritos, molletes, enfrijoladas…
I counted 117 different food menu items, plus the drinks! So, I think it’s safe to say they have a large variety of food, and there’s something for everyone. Most kids will enjoy anything with sugar, but even considering that if your kid has a picky palette there’s gotta be something they will enjoy, since there’s over 40 sweet food options. Also, for the adults who want something sweet to eat with a little kick then there’s a pancake drenched with Kahlua. Though if you don’t like sweets, no problem. There are many other options and even a couple savory pancakes and waffles such as the pancake sadnwhich, which has eggs and your choice of breakfast meats. They also serve Mexican and seafood everyday as well as special menu items such as pozole, enchiladas, sopes, gorditas, and tostadas on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
I have a sweet tooth, so much that when I hear the ice cream man I go running out like a little kid, but then again I am a little kid, so I had to get a waffle or pancake with lots of toppings. Although, most of their pancakes and waffles were like edible sculptures with lots of fruit and toppings, and there were so many, so I didn’t know what to choose! Finally though, as I didn’t want to keep the waitress waiting any longer, I got the Waffle Tropical since she recommended it. Waffle Tropical includes four fresh fruits that are strawberries, apple, banana, and peaches with some nuts, and on top of that you get some chantilly, aka whipped cream, and a large scoop of french vanilla ice cream. The waffle itself had a lot of vanilla flavor and was super soft. It legitimately felt like cloud bread and it really tasted homemade with love; something like a parent or grandparent would make for you. The fruits tasted really fresh just as they are, but they were also just sweet and delicious fruits. It seemed like whoever bought the fruits spent some extra time picking out the best ones. The ice cream was so rich, creamy, and thick, in a good way of course. Also, the presentation was gorgeous.
My dad ordered some Chilaquiles Con Arachera, and I totally wish I would have gotten those. I really liked my waffle, but growing up chilaquiles were my favorite food, and these are probably the best ones I’ve ever had!! The first thing I noticed about these is that they had a giant piece of steak on them, and under that a whole bunch of melted cheese. Which, I don’t remember seeing that be done with chilaquiles before, since normally your supposed to put queso fresco on them. But, none-the-less they were delicious! The cheese might have even made them better! The steak was super tender and so soft that when I bit into it it literally felt like soft gum. And the flavors were not lacking either; everything about the steak was actually perfect. The chilaquiles themselves were not soggy and the sauce was super good with a slight spicy-ness to it. Even after a car ride home the chilaquiles weren’t mush and had a slight crisp-ness to them. I know because I finished them off as soon as we walked in the door.
My mom couldn’t decide what she wanted, just like me, but then she saw Huevos Benedictos, or eggs benedict, and immediately ordered them. The waitress considerately asked how she would like her egg cooked, which is a big deal because my mom doesn’t like runny eggs. The sauce was made with lime, not lemon, but she decided to try them anyways. My mom prefers lemon so much more because the lime can make the sauce too sweet, but people rarely ever use lemon here. Later my dad and I were impressed to see that the chef was making a tiny batch of hollandaise sauce by hand just for my mom’s plate.
The presentation on my mom’s plate was very pretty, with a tomato rose garnish, and the sauce covering the two eggs looked super creamy and soft. When she cut into it you could see the English muffin, the smoked pork chop, and the perfectly cooked egg neatly stacked on top of each other. But not only was it pretty, it was yummy! Really, really yummy! My mom says it’s the best eggs benedict made with lime she’s ever had, and she’s had a lot since it’s her favorite egg dish. It also came with some delicious hash browns on the side, another of her favorites. My mom said on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being excellent, they get an 11 because the food was excellent and a +1 because it is worth the drive.
Fabrica Del Hot Cake isn’t huge, but there is some more space in the back, and it isn’t exactly the fanciest place, but the food is spectacular, and you get a very nice view looking down on the bay, delivered with a fresh ocean breeze. It would be a perfect place for parties because, once again, there’s something for everyone here, and it is really good food, like, really good. Also, the bathrooms are clean.
