Lunch Under a Guamuchil Tree

Lunch Under a Guamuchil Tree

Today we went to a restaurant that was recommended to us.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best not so well known cheap eats, mostly family-owned, restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place, or big place, to tell you about and review the food and prices.

A couple days ago my dad and me were eating at El Tulipan, which we wrote about, and you can read the article here, but while we were finishing up a group of people came in, and of course my dad had to talk to them. Turns out they were foodies too, and one of the guys recommended for us to go to Verde Guamuchil and get the platter, which came with meat and a whole bunch of other sides. And, today we did visit the place! It’s located on Calle González Gallo 75-L18 in Vallarta Villas, and it’s right across from AutoZone in Macroplaza.

Verde Guamuchil is actually very interesting, because during the day they’re like a family friendly restaurant, even when it comes to the music they play, and serve food such as aquachiles, tostadas, quesadillas, pizza, volcanes, quesadillas, the meat platter, and more, but during the night they’re more of a bar, and they serve food such as wings, burger, burritos, ribs, and snacks. Also, after 11 pm they don't allow any minors in.

Now, even though we were recommended to get the big platter for three, I wasn’t very hungry, and instead I got tuna sashimi to eat along with a naranjada. Some tuna sashimi’s are better than others, but this one was definitely a better one! The sauce was made out of soy sauce, lime, onion, and cucumber, and it was super fresh, slightly tangy, a little bit spicy, and not overly salty! Put short, it was super good, and kind of a perfect sashimi sauce! As for the tuna itself, it was really good too, and was super pink. You could definitely tell that it wasn’t some old, cheap fish. There were also some pieces of avocado on the top, and the creaminess and kind of blandness of them paired really nicely with the intense flavor of the sauce and the fresh, delicious fish.

My dad was a lot hungrier than me and still wanted to try a platter, so he just got a personal platter. It came with bistec, cebollines, a small quesadilla, a giant stack of homemade tortillas, beans, guacamole, four salsas, and corn chips. The meat was really good and full of flavor, but it didn’t have any marinade or spices on it, the meat was just really good! Plus, it had kind of a roasted or smokey flavor to it because of how it was cooked; on an open fire!! But, my dad, as normal, dumped a whole bowl of molcajete salsa on his plate, but I can't blame him, since it was so good! It was made out of roasted vegetables, jalapeños, and serranos, but you could tell they weren't cooked for a long time, since aside from the smokiness there was also a bit of freshness to it. And even though it wasn't spicy, you could very much taste the chilis, and, in fact, it tasted like Anaheim chilis!

So, Verde Guamuchil serves great food, but it’s also just a cool place!! In the center of the restaurant is a giant guamuchil tree, and it’s branches spread all over the top of the roof, and aside from that there are plants hanging off of the ceiling, on the ground, and vines growing on the walls! The outside of the place is completely green because of the plants!! But, don't worry, leaves aren't falling on you as you eat. Also, I should mention that after 10 pm on Tuesday live alternative rock music is played and after 10 pm on Thursday live ranchero music is played. And apart from that kareoke is available every day!

If you enjoyed this article, and would like to recommend a place that you know about, then please let me know. Or, if you are an owner yourself of a place that you would like to see written about, contact me.
