A Giant Arriero and Liter of Water for Under $3, or a Torta and Water for $2

A Giant Arriero and Liter of Water for Under $3, or a Torta and Water for $2

Today we went to Taqueria El Guero Flaco in Independencia.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.

My parents and I were out kind of late, coming home from an event at about 10 pm. But my dad, who for some reason didn’t eat at the restaurant we had just come from, was hungry so we stopped at a taco stand/fonda on our way home. We had been there many times before, so we knew it was good. It’s called Taqueria El Guero Flaco, which is a funny name to me because it means skinny white boy. It is located on Calle Pavo Real, the same road as TakeLunch, and in the colonia of Independencia. The longitude latitude location is 20.638660821811598, -105.2109507964378.

Taqueria EL Guero Flaco serves tacos, as it’s a taqueria, but as most taquerias do, they also serve quesadillas, volcans, gringas, arrieros, and even tortas. They have lots of different meats, and they’re all decently cheap except for the lengua. It’s not expensive for lengua, as it is expensive to buy, but it’s just not cheap. They also have a couple really good specials such as an arriero and a liter of water for only 55 pesos, less than three dollars, or a torta and half a liter of water for 40 pesos, about two dollars!!

I wasn’t very hungry, as I had just eaten, so I got a single cabeza taco. The cabeza was really soft and super good! Cabeza doesn’t have a strong flavor, so it’s not the type of meat that you season a whole lot, so I had to add a little salt but the flavor of the meat was quite nice. I’ve been eating cabeza since I was a young baby, and this was pretty good! My dad got 4 al pastor tacos, which were just as soft and tender. Of course, they had more seasoning, so the amount of salt was just fine for my dad. Though, because my dad is my dad, he had to drench them in guacamole and tons of hot sauce.

The little taqueria is nice enough, nothing fancy though, and had several tables and chairs. It was pretty hot inside, even with the fans, but there are some chairs outside and of course you can get your food to go. There are some pretty cool paintings on the wall, which are very colorful and cute. The kitchen area is decently sized and completely open to the restaurant, which is probably why it gets so hot in there.
