No Breaking Your Budget at Breaking Bread

No Breaking Your Budget at Breaking Bread

Today we made an unexpected stop to have a bite to eat at Breaking Bread.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.

After an interview with the owner of a men’s rehab clinic, which went well, and a trip to Costco, as we were driving around we saw a little place that we had not noticed before and decided to stop. The place is called Breaking Bread, which my dad thought it was named after the expression “breaking bread” which apparently means to share food and/or commence a meal, but I pointed out that the name is in the same font and style as Breaking Bad, the TV show, so it was probably a parody name. They are located on Avenida Fidel Velazquez in Colonia Vida Vallarta and their latitude longitude location is 20.6461033237424, -105.21418161053609. They also offer delivery to all of PV starting at only 30 pesos.

Breaking Bread’s specialty is a variety of sandwiches, such as grilled cheese, paninis, brioches, and baguettes, made with their fresh home-made bread, but they also serve salads and burritos. All of their sandwiches and baguettes come with tomato, onion, lettuce, bell pepper, and manchego cheese. The paninis and grilled cheese use the same type of brioche bun and have the same topping options. The only difference is that the grilled cheese always has cheese on it and is grilled on an open grill, and the panini is cooked in a panini sandwich press.

Sandwiches and baguettes are around 70 pesos, paninis and grilled cheese around 65 pesos, the burritos around 90 pesos, and the salads around 55 pesos. The most expensive item on the menu, a three-item burrito, is 115, and that’s less than 6 dollars. So, the restaurant is pretty cheap. Also, the two owners of Breaking Bread, who are siblings, bake new bread every single day, and all plates are prepared at the moment you order with fresh ingredients.

I ordered a fresh tuna sandwich with cream cheese. I didn’t know how well cream cheese and manchego would go together, but it was actually really good. The whole sandwich somehow worked perfectly together, which makes me think the chef has good experience with food. The bun was light, fluffy, and warm, which really showed the homemade part. The vegetables all seemed fresh, the tomato was crisp as a good tomato should be, and the bell peppers added a nice crunch to the sandwich. The manchego cheese at the bottom was warm and melty, and was obviously hot off the grill, as it wasn’t chewy or rubbery, as some melted cheeses that sit out will get. And the tuna was really good and fresh. It was served still cool, but not strikingly cold, and had a flavor of lime with a little bit of spice that worked perfectly with the rest of the sandwich.

My dad also got a sandwich, he got the Mr. Wero. He didn’t even know what that was, but him being him he just asked one of the siblings what she likes best off the menu, and ordered that. It had chicken, ham, bacon, American cheese, as well as the ingredients that are put on all sandwiches. It was so cheesy and filling that my dad couldn’t even finish it, and it wasn’t a giant sandwich. None of their sandwiches are huge, but all the rich ingredients make them super filling, and they’re all super good quality, so the decently cheap price is totally worth what you get.

The little restaurant, is, well, little, but it is cute and friendly. There are a few small wooden tables with chairs, as well as some high chairs scattered around the room. Then there’s the kitchen area that has a fridge and other kitchen appliances, and an area at the back that has a bathroom. The cook and his sister are really friendly and kind, and speak pretty good English as well.
