The Flavors Of Mexico City In Puerto Vallarta

The Flavors Of Mexico City In Puerto Vallarta

Today we went to La Loteria in Aralias.

Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.

My dad and I were planning on going to a really good huarache place, and if you don’t now what huaraches are don’t worry, they’re not actual shoes, but they were closed. So, as we were driving back we were looking around for some sort of little place that looked kinda like a little mom and pop place. Eventually we came upon La Loteria in Versalles, and we were really excited to go there, but we couldn’t find any parking. So, we kept on driving. And then I remembered that we always drove past La Loteria in Aralias, in front of a big park, and normally there was plenty of parking. So we decided to go there, as it has always peaked our interests. It is located on Calle Colibri in Aralias and the latitude longitude location is 20.640207161805243, -105.21581370550884, and they also do delivery for a small fee. This location is open everyday from 10:00 am-11:30 pm, and the Versalles location is open from Monday-Saturday 12:00 pm-10:00 pm.

La Loteria serves Mexican food, such as enchiladas, pozole, tacos, and much more, and a lot of the recipes, if not all of them, are about 60 years old and come from one of the two owner’s grandmother from Mexico City. They also have two special dishes, La Gordita Especial and La Loteria. The waitress whom we were talking to said La Loteria is a plate with a little of almost everything from their menu. So, I get why it’s called the lottery, it’s because you get all the “prizes” in one dish. As for drinks, they have different sodas, water of the day, and then just natural water. Just like in the Unites States food from different places taste differently, so food from Mexico City is different from other places in Mexico.

I got a liter of pineapple water and a La Loteria, and, I thought it was going to be a LITTLE of everything as the waitress described it, although it turned out that it was a lot of everything, it was sooo much food!! Also, the plate only cost 90 pesos, less than 5 dollars!!! It had a giant taco dorado stuffed to the max with chicken, a fat enchilada also stuffed with chicken, and a whole bunch of gorditas and sopes with a giant pile of either pierna or chicken, potatoes, and carrots. And, on top of that, quite literally, it had a whole bunch of col and tomato sauce poured on it, which did sog up some of the tortillas, but it was fine.

I didn’t get a chance to taste the taco, as I got full and took it as well as some of the sopes and gorditas home to my mom, who was able to get lunch and dinner out of it. Enchiladas are my favorite Mexican dish, and theirs was very delicious. The chicken wasn’t dry, actually had really good flavor, and the tortillas were, thankfully, not crunchy. The pierna on the sopes was super juicy, and was full of spices and flavor. Also, the carrots weren’t overcooked and super sweet, which was really nice.

My dad got a liter of water as well and a La Gordita Especial. There were so many gorditas on that plate that it was too much to count or to eat!! Some of them were picadillo, some chicken, and some pierna, but it was hard to tell by looking because there was a great deal of potato, col, and that same sauce that mine had all over it, plus a lot of the tortillas broke up, so it was just a big mountain of deliciousness. Sometimes you’d get a bite of picadillo or sometimes you’d get a bite of chicken and tomato, or sometimes even just a bite of col. But every single one is super good!!

La Loteria is a pretty small place, it only has about 4 tables, but you'll probably be able to get a seat. Like I said before, there’s also a park across the street so you could get some food to go and then sit at the park and eat! It’s a big park with lots of big trees and shade, so it’s quite pleasant over there.
