First National Public Health Day 2021 Starts in Tepatitlán

From May 17 to 28, actions to prevent diseases and health risks will be carried out in Jalisco. There will be an intensification of vaccination for babies and children,

as well as consultancies on dental health, contraception, and healthy weight, among many others.

From May 17 to 28, Jalisco will hold the First National Public Health Day 2021 under the slogan "Your Health is in Your Hands," a strategy in which various entities at the federal, state, and municipal levels participate in order to promote activities to prevent diseases and other health risks throughout the entire life line.

Given the current situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the day will be carried out in full, maintaining social distancing at all times, correct use of face masks, constant hand disinfection. and avoiding crowding of people.

In the municipality of Tepatitlán de Morelos, the inaugural event was held with the health and municipal authorities led by the head of the Jalisco Health Secretariat, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, who pointed out the importance of the sum of inter-institutional efforts. The National Day of Public Health, he said, "is aimed at priority attention groups and seeks to reinforce all preventive actions with equity and inclusion."

He added the importance of citizen participation so that all health actions have a greater impact on the quality of individual and community life, from reinforcing or completing vaccination schedules in children under six years of age, to promoting care in the population over 60 years of age.

Another example is the important joint efforts to combat the dengue-transmitting fly, a global public health problem. In Jalisco during 2020, 61% of confirmed dengue cases occurred in regions outside the Guadalajara metropolitan area, with the highest number being Ciudad Guzmán, La Barca, and Tamazula.

Vaccination is one of the main priorities of the day considering risk group, age and season, as well as the granting of supplies according to requirements such as Vitamin A, albendazole, contraceptives, fluoride varnish, and advice on brushing techniques.

Information will also be provided on the identification of warning signs and risk factors for respiratory and diarrheal diseases, cancer in childhood and adolescence, prevention of adolescent pregnancy, warning signs in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, obstetric emergencies, addictions, violence, and dementia. Work will be carried out for the detection of cases of breast cancer, and screening tests for HIV-AIDS.

The presidium was composed of the councilor Héctor Medina Robles, representing the municipal president of Tepatitlán, María Elena de Anda, Silvia del Carmen Valencia, IMSS Public Health Medical Assistant Coordinator, Alan Solano Magaña, Medical Subdelegate of the ISSSTE and the general director of the OPD Jalisco Health Services José de Jesús Méndez de Lira.

The SSJ invites the entire population to approach their medical unit, health center, or hospital with all the protection measures against COVID-19, taking their National Health Card with them to receive all the services available in the entity.
