Jalisco Steps Up Accreditation of Medical Institutions to Improve Quality and Service

In order to guarantee citizens access to safe and quality medical services, the Governor of the State, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, delivered 118 accreditation and 18 re-accreditation reports to specialized establishments and medical services.

These include public and private institutions such as hospitals, health centers, specialty institutes, rehab centers, and others, managing to reduce the lag from 14% to 60% in the delivery of these certificates.

This achievement, which certifies that medical establishments are reliable and competitive, was possible due to the work and commitment of the current administration to avoid the break down and fall of medical services in Jalisco, the president said.

“The first level of care provided by today's accredited institutions is extremely important, since at that level diseases are prevented, risk factors are reduced, and the advance of any disease in the user population is stopped. The certification process has different phases that depend on the service in the establishment,” emphasized the Secretary of Health, Fernando Pétersen.

For a medical institution to obtain an accreditation, it needs to meet a series of requirements and go through several verification bases of the conditions under which it operates.

The evaluation of the institutions is external, and determines the fulfillment of criteria such as capacity, safety and quality. This certification guarantees people access to quality medical services and safety for patients.

“Two and a half years ago, when we started this government, the scenario was bleak. Only 14% of our medical units were accredited. Two and a half years ago we had an endless number of works on public health that were not finished. They were abandoned, thrown away, and they represented a huge outrage for Jalisco. But we also had an administrative problem of not giving our health personnel their place,… today everything is different,” highlighted Alfaro Ramírez.

The Governor also recalled that the stability of the state health system today was also due to the fact that Jalisco made the "correct" decision not to leave the management of medical services for Jalisco to the Federal Government, by not adhering to INSABI.

"Having resisted as a state the pressure that existed on us to dismantle our health system, I believe that today it is showing us that we are taking the right path, we decided not to sign the INSABI adhesion agreements that they had proposed to us. They tried to side us to do it, and today when one sees the health results of what happened last year, the way we face the health emergency, when one sees the progress we have today in rebuilding our physical infrastructure, when we can see advances in administrative terms, I think we can feel very proud of having acted with dignity, with high sights, of not having bowed our heads, of having defended our sovereignty, and of having privileged the health of Jalisco above any thing," proudly remarked the president.
