State Creates Registry of Minors with Cancer; No Minor Will Be Without Treatment

Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez met this Friday with civil associations that support children with cancer, where it was agreed to install a permanent work table to broaden the approach to the issue.

“In recent days the voice has been raised by many organizations and parents nationwide to put on the table and on the public agenda the (issue of) lack of drugs to care for children with cancer. In the case of Jalisco, these organizations have had a close working relationship with us that I believe helps us attend this new moment with a solid commitment to guarantee that in Jalisco there is not a single boy or a single girl with cancer who does not have treatment," said the Jalisco president.

Through this permanent table, a state registry will be created to illustrate in real terms the number of infants affected, the type of cancer they suffer, and the budgetary needs that are required to address the problem. This will create awareness so that the state authority can evaluate the physical state of the medical infrastructure in the entity in order to better treat the disease.

“Today we met with these organizations that are representing thousands of children who today demand a response, and we agreed with them to install a permanent work table, where they will also support state secretariats and agencies to create the first registry that will exist in the country of children with cancer,” added the Governor.

Universities, specialists, academics, and civil associations will also participate in the work table to provide timely monitoring of the current situation of cancer in Jalisco both in children and the general population.

The State Government is allocating 15 million pesos for the purchase of oncological drugs to support children with cancer, with the commitment to further expand the budget ceiling.

There will also be a call to the Jalisco society to join and collaborate with this cause, with the intention of forming an economic fund that provides sick children the possibility of recovering their health.

“I am convinced that the people of Jalisco will contribute their grain of sand, with private resources, so that the funds that are needed to address such a complex problem can be achieved. We are ready to work and to reach these agreements that are very important for Jalisco,” highlighted Alfaro Ramírez.

Alejandro Barbosa Padilla, founder of the "Red Nose" association, recognized the will and sensitivity of the Government of Jalisco in its openness to dialogue, as well as its interest in finding substantive solutions to the care of childhood cancer, and later, in other social sectors of the population.

“We have reached very positive agreements for our entire community, knowing that in Jalisco we not only serve Jalisco, we serve people from Michoacán, Colima, Nayarit, Sinaloa and other states that come here, because they have faith that in this state they will be treated. This work will bear fruit at the national level, and we are going to give an incentive to all these families. It will be a new page in the history of cancer in how it is treated here in Jalisco," concluded Barbosa Padilla.
