“Escoge Cuidarte” Module Opened in Benito Jaurez Stadium

The “Escoge Cuidarte” Module, the first to open in Jalisco, will offer prevention, detection, and health orientation services for the population between 18 and 29 years of age.

In order to take advantage of the presence of the young population that goes to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the “Escoge Cuidarte” Program, or “Choose to Take Care of Yourself” module was installed in the Benito Juárez Auditorium.

The Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), in conjunction with institutions of the Sector: IMSS, ISSSTE and Municipal Medical Services will apply measurement of weight, height, blood pressure, as well as tests to know the level of glucose in blood, cholesterol, and rapid tests of HIV.

Guidance will also be given on family planning and especially on the importance of preventing unplanned pregnancy in adolescents, a priority issue in public health.

In Jalisco, the number of births in women between the ages of 10 and 19 has been significantly reduced, from 27,006 during 2010, to 18,916 births in 2020, which represents a decrease of 30%, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, head of the SSJ, detailed in his inauguration message.

In Jalisco, it was estimated in 2020 that 1,482,652 inhabitants are aged 10 to 19, which is equivalent to 17.6% of the population. In Mexico it is estimated that only 37.6% of adolescents used a birth control method in their first sexual relationship, and that 23% of adolescents start their sexual life between the ages of 12 and 19.

This module will offer people who attend, once they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, orientation and counseling on sexual and reproductive health, teaching contraceptive methods, awareness of reproductive rights, information on prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, as well as testing for HIV, diabetes, and nutritional information.

Among the young women who attended the "Choose Take Care" module today, after applying the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was Arely Viviana Corona who said: "I am very pleased that these services are free, because one does not have the money to carry out this type of tests. I also received information about contraceptive methods.”

Julio César Álvarez highlighted the accessibility of the module because as soon as the vaccine is applied, you can go to take the rapid test and receive nutritional information.

This module as the first stage will be running from Monday to Friday from 08:30am to 2:00pm in the Macromodule of the Benito Juárez Auditorium and in the CUCEI module during the vaccination day for young people aged 18 and over, and then incorporating on September 6 the CAT module in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga.

The invitation is extended to young people who attend their vaccination, visit and obtain the information in a personalized way, approach these modules, or go to any unit of the Health Sector of the institutions to access more services offered by the own units.

The "Choose to Take Care of Yourself" strategy has been working permanently in an inter-institutional and inter-sectorial way since September 2019, which is why it seeks to strengthen the activities that impact and contribute to raising awareness of the activities that benefit the health of the adolescent and young population.

Likewise, there is a fundamental tool of this strategy through their website, which during the pandemic took a preponderant role as an instrument of orientation and sexual and reproductive education in teenagers, women, and men. Since its inception, the site's productivity has been close to 70,000 active users and approximately 100,000 open sessions.
