United States Dominates the Opening Day of the Pan American Gymnastics

The best athletes of continental artistic gymnastics in the youth category began their participation in the Pan American Youth Artistic Gymnastics Championship this Friday.

This event will be held until Sunday, and serves as a selective to the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.

With a formal ceremony led by the General Director of Code Jalisco, Fernando Ortega, this event was officially launched. Naomi Valenzo, president of the Pan American Gymnastics Union was also present, as well as Gustavo Salazar, president of the Mexican Gymnastics Federation, Tomás Gallo, director of Comude Guadalajara, and other sports and municipal authorities.

"Guadalajara is today considered the World Capital of Sports, which has made us worthy of events like this one, which brings together more than 300 participants from 19 countries on the continent," said Ortega Ramos.

During the first day of competitions, the United States delegation stood out, getting first place in the all around through Frederic Richard with 79.402 accumulated points, with horse jumping being its best apparatus, presenting a total of 13.967 points.

The second place went to his teammate Ian Lasic-Ellis with 77.335 points, and the third, for the Colombian Ángel Barajas, with 76.402 points, and the top Mexican athlete in this men’s only event was Mario Rojas who finished tenth, with 73.135 accumulated points.

The awards were also held in the team modality, where the United States had 234.140 points, Colombia with 223.84, and Brazil with 222.04, made up the podium in that order. Meanwhile, Mexico stayed close by placing fourth, with 218.873 points.

Today the women's competition will take place, while on Sunday the activities will close with the definition of the last places to be held in the youth Pan-American fair that will be held in Colombia.
