Deserved Recognition to Two Talented Athletes from Vallarta

For the achievements obtained in each of their disciplines, and raising the name of Puerto Vallarta, the interim municipal president Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado proudly congratulated two talented athletes from Vallarta.

He presented awards this Thursday to the national footgolf champion César Cuauhtémoc Díaz Santos Rodríguez, and the Muay Thai coach Pedro López Joya,

Accompanied by the director of the Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE,) José Amador Hernández Madrigal, the mayor congratulated the athletes and pointed out that regardless of the position they obtained in the events they participated, representing Mexico and Puerto Vallarta is the most important thing.

He indicated that this administration has supported sport as never before, recognizing that there is still much to do, but significant progress has been made on this issue, and that it is essential to continue promoting sports for all that it represents.

He said that Puerto Vallarta has great athletes who are and will be the basis for more children and young people to be interested in practicing sports disciplines, and "who represent the municipality and be the next number one in sports," for which he reiterated that in the remainder of the administration this activity will continue to be promoted.

Amador Hernández Madrigal announced that currently around 63 sports disciplines are practiced in the municipality, which have been operated with different supports.

He indicated that there is a lot of talent in Vallarta, and that sports is currently very diverse with all disciplines, in addition to having earned great results in athletics, swimming, martial arts, boxing, etc., creating "an interesting range that is being built in this municipality."

The national champion of Footgolf, César Cuauhtémoc Díaz Santos Rodríguez, and Pedro López Joya, Muay Thai coach, shared their experience in the practice of their sport, raising the name of Puerto Vallarta, and at the same time thanked the support of the City Council and COMUDE.

Footgolf is a sport that consists of a fusion of soccer and golf, although closer to the latter, where players hit a soccer ball to insert it into holes in the ground in the fewest number of strokes possible. It was created in the Netherlands in 2009, and three World Cups have already been played, in Hungary, Argentina, and Morocco.

Muay Thai, also known as Thai boxing, or traditionally as the art of the eight limbs, is one of the most dangerous contact sports that there is, and is considered an extreme and illegal contact sport in several countries of the world. It is based on Thai boxing, and is a combination of strikes using fists, feet, knees and elbows, in addition to some sweeps, holds, and throws. It is very similar to other Indochinese boxing systems, such as the Prodal from Cambodia, the Tomoi from Malaysia, the Lethwei from Burma, and the Muay Lao from Laos.

It should be noted that César Díaz participated in the Mexico Open de Footgolf held in Cancun as an international event. 147 players from 14 countries participated resulting in Diaz being crowned champion.

Pedro López Joya was the coach of Brandon Moreno, who recently won the UFC world championship in the specialty of striking Muay Thai in a fight held in Glendale, Arizona.

Also present for the awards was Jorge Antonio Murillo Guillestegui, coordinator of the UNIRSE Puerto Vallarta Costa Sierra Occidental and representative of the Footgolf champion, as well as Rodrigo López Joya, brother of the Muay Thai coach.
