Guadalajara to Host Boxing Tournament in Cali Junior Pan American Qualifier

This Tuesday the Boxing Qualifying Tournament was presented for the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.

The event will take place in the Dome of the Alcalde Sports Center of Code Jalisco, from July 13 to 18. The Perla Tapatia will host 120 participants from 22 countries, who will look for a place in the first edition of the Junior Pan American Games, to be held in November. The tournament will offer eight places up to the 64 kilogram division.

“It is a pleasure to present another great sporting event in Jalisco. Boxing has grown considerably in this administration and, in conjunction with the Mexican Boxing Federation, we will host an international event with the participation of 22 countries, and it is the Cali Junior Pan American Qualifier. We will enjoy high quality in the fights and we invite you to attend this great event,” said the Director of Megaeventos of Code Jalisco, Héctor García.

President of the Mexican Boxing Federation, Ricardo Contreras, offered the technical details of an event that will show the future stars of boxing, especially with a view to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“Jalisco has been confirmed at the national level as the state that most supports the sport, and that is why it was decided to hold this event in Guadalajara. We will have 120 competitors in total, who will look for one of the places for Cali 2021. The competitive level will be very high, with the participation of the United States, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Argentina, among others. They are the young people who within a few years will fight to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games, and who could even face each other in Olympic competition ”.

In addition, the top leader of amateur boxing in our country dared to express the prognosis that the Federation has for this event, with a large number of Aztec fighters classified for Cali.

“I hope our fighters are up to the task, and the reality is that I trust them. We will have eight fighters in the men's division and five in the women's, and we expect five to six fighters to qualify. The Selection is already formed, emerging from the Olympic Festival that took place a couple of months ago, and we are confident that we will reach the goal.”

Admission will be free and seating will be restricted to 30-35 percent of the Code Dome's capacity.
