Puerto Vallarta Supports its Sports, Sport Centers, Athletes and Coaches

Much work has been done to support Puerto Vallarta’s athletes and coaches, improvement of our sports spaces, and promote sports practice among the population.

The interim municipal president, Jorge Antonio Quintero Alvarado, headed this Tuesday the first ordinary session of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Sports Council (Comude,) where he highlighted the activities, works and support that were carried out through this agency during the present year in favor of the promotion of physical activities and athletes from Vallarta.

The first interim mayor stressed that as never in history, local government decidedly bet on the sport of Puerto Vallarta, and although there are still many things to do, a great advance was achieved in this matter, so he wished that this will continue to strengthen in the coming years.

In this session, the general director of the Comude, José Amador Hernández Madrigal, who is secretary of this council, presented the report of activities carried out from January to August 31 of this year.

He specified that in the area of ​​promoting sport, support was provided to more than 4,800 athletes through incentives and economic support in the amount of 798,554 pesos for transportation, lodging, food, registration for competitions, camps, and activities of preparation.

With the Popular Sports program, actions were developed to promote physical activity and sports practice in the rural area and the neighborhoods of the municipality, for which we worked together with the different sports promoters and the active participation of 3,827 people in 7 sports leagues of soccer, volleyball, and basketball, both children and youth.

Likewise, with the Sports Training program, support tools were provided to athletes, with the training and professionalization of 93 promoters, coaches, judges and promoters of the sport, thereby raising the technical and competition level. First aid courses applied to sports, and certifications in children's soccer and youth soccer were also taught.

Within the Sports Initiation Schools, in which the talent of children and young people between 6 and 14 years of age is encouraged and generated, different sports disciplines and adapted sports are taught, with an average enrollment of 675 students in 2021, which represents a decline in participation due to the current pandemic.

As part of the monitoring of these schools, it was possible that the rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics clubs participated in various competitions at the national level, as well as the municipal boxing school that earned itself representation in the 2021 Conade National Games.

Likewise, to encourage young people, audiences have been held in soccer disciplines, giving them the opportunity to attend professional clubs. Also, in collaboration with Jalisco CODE, the Talent Detection program was carried out, where through science applied to sport, more than 300 children attended to learn their skills, and be able to be integrated into the regional high performance program.

Amador Hernández also referred that within the medals in the 2021 Conade National Games, the Vallarta athletes achieved 13 medals, of which 7 were gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze, in the disciplines of frontenis, athletics, boxing, indoor volleyball and weightlifting, with surfing competitions still pending. The adapted sport had its activity in the state level, and the results are being tabulated to know how many athletes attend the national event that will take place in October.

In this administration, the achievements of local talents have also been recognized, for which in July 16 athletes and 6 coaches were honored for their results at the Conade National Games. Similarly, in the last six years sports scholarships were awarded for 3,239,100 pesos. On the subject of Sports and Tourism Promotion, Vallarta hosted different competitions at the regional, state, national, and international levels.

And in terms of maintenance of sports spaces, infrastructure and equipment, he stressed that among the works that were delivered this year, is the improvement of the sports unit of the CTM, the field of the 1º de Mayo neighborhood. In collaboration with the Marineros Club, seats were placed in the basketball auditorium and second maintenance was given to the court. The 4 frontenis courts and the basketball court were rehabilitated, in addition to carrying out the rehabilitation of the athletics track of the Alfonso Díaz Santos unit and the soccer field.
