Mexico Wins 2 Golds, 7 Silvers in First Day of Pan-American Weightlifting Championship

This prideful day for Mexico was held at the Paradero Weightlifting Forum in Guadalajara.

Yesica Yadira Hernández from Guanajuato earned the first medal in this event for the Mexican team, achieving the best results in the 49 kg division. She lifted 80 kilos in the snatch earning a silver, 103 kilos in the clean and jerk earning a gold, for a total of 183 kilos, earning her second gold.

"I feel very happy. It is for what I have worked, and I hope that the competition will turn out the same in the Youth Pan American Games as it does today. It has been a long process, but we have had several competitions and camps, and a good job has been done,” said the Guanajuato Champion.

Venezuelan Katherin Oriana earned the gold in snatch with 81 kilos, and silvers in clean and jerk with 96 kilos for a total of 167 kilos. The Peruvian Anali Paola Saldarriaga earned three bronzes lifting 65 kilos in the snatch, 83 kilos in the clean and jerk, accumulating 144 kilos in total.

In the women's 55 kilo category, Mexico accumulated three more silvers through Irene Borrego, lifting 86 kilos in the snatch, and 101 kilos in the clean and jerk, for a total of 187 kilos. Colombia snatched the golds with Antonina Moya, and the bronzes as well, with Kely Junkar.

In the men’s division, Mexican José Poox, was awarded three silver medals in the men's 55-kilo division, with lifts of 100 and 131 kilos, for a total of 231 kilos.

Venezuelan Winder Sánchez took all three golds with 104, 134 for a total of 238 kilos. Chilean Benjamin Torres cleaned up the bronzes with lifts of 91 kilos and 110 kilos, for a total of 201 kilos.
