State Training and Certification for Police Officers of Jalisco Advances

The process of certification of police officers and security corporations in the state is progressing, with special training operations throughout the different regions of the state.

This reported by the General Strategic Security Coordinator, Ricardo Sánchez Beruben, during the inauguration of the Itinerant Training Strategy to obtain the CUP in the municipality of Atotonilco El Alto.

Sánchez Beruben highlighted that less than a year after the ECICUP (Estrategia de Capacitación Itinerante para la obtención del Certificado Único Policial) was launched, a total of 1,736 officers from municipal police stations have been certified within this plan, and added that within the scope of state corporations, the figures are abysmally higher. ECICUP mandates special training of officers to provide safety, security, and fair treatment to citizens.

“And to give us an idea of what progress has been in terms of certification in Jalisco, when we received the administration on December 6, 2018, only 2,300 officers had their certification; as of today, two and a half years after the start of the administration, more than 15,000 police officers from the state and municipal forces have their certification.”

The director of the Academy of the Secretariat of Security, Fernando Curiel Campos, emphasized the need to have certified corporations that guarantee performance within the framework of the law and with a view to consolidating the transition to the citizen security model.

“The training of the police element must be one of the priorities of all of us who are involved in citizen security. It is our duty and obligation to provide the (police force) with the vast knowledge so that it is respected by the citizen and fulfills its functions with strict adherence to the human rights."

With the inauguration of the Initial Training course in Atotonilco el Alto, support will be provided to municipalities in the Altos Sur and Ciénega Regions, in which 98 police officers from local municipalities participate.

Students will go to the facilities of the SUPERA Center of the Delegation of San Francisco de Asís de Atotonilco el Alto, from Monday to Saturday, for the approach of practical subjects. The rest of the theoretical training will be developed from their municipalities, working with the support of the virtual platform designed for this purpose. The courses total about 12 weeks of work both presence and online.

With that of Atotonilco El Alto, there are already 5 itinerant venues in the state, including Chapala, Zapotlán El Grande, Autlán de Navarro, and San Juan de los Lagos. The venues will be where the initial training course is taught, approval of entry is determined, as well as contunuance in a police corporation, and fundamental requirements in the Police Certification of the corporations.
