Bars and Nightclubs Closed; Reduced Capacities in Businesses and Public Places

Given the recent increase in cases and hospitalizations due to COVID-19, and with the aim of safeguarding the return to school attendance, the Board of Health has issued the following measures that will take effect this Friday, July 30.

Among the announced restrictions are the reduction of capacity in restaurants from 75 to 50% of capacity, with closing hours until midnight; the cancellation of bar and nightclub operations throughout the month of August; and capacities for event rooms were reduced from 300 to 150 people for closed rooms, and from 600 to 300 people in open rooms.

The Governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez said that in order not to affect the operation of hotels, the capacity of 80% of hotel occupancy is maintained, but the capacity in common areas is reduced to 50%. In stadiums entry is reduced to 33% of quota with the mandatory use of face masks.

Regarding the closing in August of the bars and clubs, Alfaro Ramírez stressed that “it was a timely warning. We said and pointed out that the established protocols were not being followed, people in the bars and clubs were acting without any type of sanitary measure. They were acting irresponsibly, there was no reaction, preventive measures were taken with the municipalities and these were insufficient, and today the message is strong; we have to return to classes and education comes first before the party."

Accompanied by the members of the Board of Health, Enrique Alfaro announced that before the cancellation of bars and clubs, instruction was given at the Economic Board to generate an extraordinary pool of resources that will support the staff of these transfers with salaries so that all employees have a guaranteed income this month.

Likewise, an analysis will be made at the Board of Health regarding massive events of more than 300 people, national holidays in September and October Festivities in Guadalajara, as well as religious festivities, and patron saint festivities with the exception of municipalities that want to request a special permit with a low rate and a viable event.

"We have to take preventive measures. We have to anticipate our decisions to an overflow of the health emergency, and that way of acting that has been criticized, and that has been questioned for a year and a half is what today allows Jalisco to say that we have done things well and that we have advanced correctly,” explained the state president.

The authorized capacity will be maintained in exhibition venues such as Expo Guadalajara (up to 6 thousand people per day in spaces greater than 10,000 m2,) industry and commerce (small, medium, and large companies,) as well as 75% of the capacity of theaters and cinemas to the extent that they have complied with the protocols of the health table. In public spaces, the use of facemasks is mandatory.

The establishments not previously described maintain their allowed capacities and pre-authorized protocols.

"We need to resume discipline, we are once again at a critical moment and we Jalisco are on trial. We have to act with solidarity and commitment. The priority is that our girls and boys return to classes,” said the president.

The president explained that these measures will be reviewed again on August 29, 2021. He added that the vaccination in Jalisco is progressing successfully. In Puerto Vallarta, 48,000 young people were inoculated and yesterday, throughout Jalisco, 72,965 people were vaccinated.
