Yesterday’s CONADE Nationals, held in the López Mateos Sports Center, hosted artistic gymnastics events for men and women.
The CONADE Nationals summon the best athletes of 44 sports disciplines between 10 and 23 years of age, with the participation of the 32 states of the Mexican Republic, as well as the Physical Culture and Sports Bodies of the IMSS, UNAM, IPN and the Institute of Mexicans Abroad.
Its objective is to summon the best Mexican child and youth athletes to offer them the possibility of being integrated into the preselections and national youth teams.
The day started with the women's activity in which Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, and Baja California stood out, which contributed the first gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Then Juan Porras of the State of Mexico completed his compulsory artistic gymnastics routines with a cumulative 73.869 points; relegating Queretaro Alonso Pérez to second place, with 73.302. For Ricardo Torres, from Mexico City, it was the bronze medal thanks to 70.669 points from him. The best from Jalisco in this category of 16 to 18 years was Emilio Canavati, who closed in sixth place with 67.369 points.
Within the framework of these Nationals, there was the participation of the Olympic qualifier Daniel Corral, who executed each of the all around apparatus as part of an evaluation prior to his participation in Tokyo. “It was my first all around competition, I was a little nervous after not competing for a while, but I feel good, happy. There are many things to improve, obviously, but it is part of the process.”
Regarding the experience of competing alongside other Olympic hopefuls, he commented that “It is the first time that I have had to compete with these boys, besides this place brings back very nice memories for the Pan American Games (2011), so I liked the experience.”
With the men's competitions, the initial day of the CONADE Nationals concluded.
