PV Misses Out on SADER’s Improvements to Municipal Markets

SADER Jalisco seeks that the properties hosting municipal market places are more functional and safe for the consumer.

There is significant progress in the works of the Municipal Markets Dignification and Competitiveness Program, which this year is seen in seven properties in process with actions that give the properties more functionality and better hygiene and safety conditions for the inhabitants who visit them.

This was expressed by the head of the office of the Jalisco Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER,) Salvador Álvarez García, who specified that on a general average, the works in the markets represent advances of 70 to 80%.

He stressed that this exercise values that each municipal market is part of the urban image, in addition to its importance as a space that must be a guarantor of food safety and hygiene.

The Director of Commercial Promotion, Alejandra Aceves Ramírez, said that the works are basically directed in two aspects: to compensate the deficiencies of the electrical and hydrosanitary installations of the points of sale, after their deterioration due to years of lack of maintenance, and in addition specific actions according to the state for each market in particular.

She gave the example of the municipal market of Ocotlán, in the Ciénega Region, where in addition to the works on the property, the access roads to it were also intervened.

She also cited the case of the Ayutla market, where lighting conditions were improved, which previously affected sellers of fresh products. Also, an area for gastronomic businesses was adapted. Likewise, she noted the progress in the municipality of La Huerta, a building that started from scratch with the demolition of the previous building in 2019, and that already registers substantial progress.

Aceves Ramírez mentioned that in each intervened market, a Municipal Committee is formed to follow up on a work plan that affects quality performance by its merchants and authorities in order to develop a constant work that meets the needs of the consumers and tenants.

In the year 2021, a total of 36 million pesos are exercised, between contributions from SADER Jalisco and the municipalities involved.

It should be noted that the Puerto Vallarta city council withdrew from an exercise to improve three properties, for not adjusting to the times of the outgoing administration.

During the 2019 and 2020 fiscal years, with resources from SADER Jalisco and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP,) 42 municipal markets throughout the state were intervened.

In 2021, the markets intervened between SADER Jalisco and the municipal treasuries are in Ocotlán, Unión de Tula, La Huerta, El Grullo, Tonalá, Ayutla and Villa Corona.
