Today we went to Taqueria Karen for an insanely cheap kilo of Al Pastor.
Hello, again. My dad and I, and sometimes my mom comes along too, have been going out on the town to find some of the best hole in the wall, off the beaten path cheap eats restaurants that we can find. We go out almost every day, finding some new little place to tell you about and review the food and prices.
My dad and I were driving down the road looking for this small corner building that sells really good al pastor tacos, and even though we’ve been there before sometimes we miss it. And, today was one of those days. In fact my dad wanted to go a block further but then I looked behind us and saw it, so I told him and we turned around. The place is called Taqueria Karen and is located on Puerto Tampico in the Colonia 10 de Mayo. The longitude latitude location is 20.62991959334106, -105.2146226317054, and they can also do deliveries if they have time.
They serve mainly asada, pastor, chorizo, and cabeza tacos, but also quesadillas and tortas. Or, you can just buy a kilo of meat and they give you tortillas, toppings, and salsas. They have a really good deal that’s 20 tacos for 100 pesos, or around 5 dollars, and it serves about 4 people! How cheap is that?
Though we were planning on it, today we didn’t get that 20x100 deal, we got a kilo of pastor. And after bringing it home and seeing how much food it was, we realized it’s much cheaper than the deal!! Me, my mom, and two of my friends all had about 5 tacos each, and didn’t even use a quarter of one of the plates of meat. But, lets say we did use a quarter of one of the plate, which was only half a kilo, then each person only cost about 6 pesos, and we all were full. So, in the long run, yes, this is much more cheaper.
The food was very cheap, but the flavor is also really good. Al Pastor all kinda tastes the same, and it’s hard to describe the flavor of it, but this meat is really good, especially with the pineapple. One thing my dad really likes about it is that it is a very lean meat. I don’t really care if it’s lean or not, because as long as it tastes good I’ll have it.
The little stand is very little, but there are a few chairs that you can sit on waiting for your food to go or that you can eat at, though there are no tables. I like the fact that you can see the man’s grill and everything he’s cooking, I like seeing people cook in restaurants and stands.
